Offenses impress in final scrimmage tune-ups

The War Eagles started their scrimmage against the Chiefs on top, working to a seven-point halftime lead and ultimately, the win. South split the first half between quarterbacks Joe Slott and Kyle Durham, with each throwing a touchdown pass toDevin McGlockton in the first half. The War Eagles are still trying to decide who will be the starter to begin the season.

“They both made some good plays at quarterback. They’re kind of like the team – they did some good things and they did some things that they need to get better at,” South head coach Jeff Arnette said. “We’ll ride it out until they make the decision on the field.”

Receiver Colby Cruz and running back Alex Han each scored for South, as did defensive back Austin Uidel, who ran back an interception for a touchdown. The War Eagles recovered four Sequoyah fumbles.

“I thought our defense did great,” Arnette said. “We played against the Wing T and worked against it for about three or four days. That’s always hard to adjust to. When you’re playing the Wing T, you’ve got to adjust to everything that goes on, and I think that we did.”
